New York Yankees Announcer Bob Sheppard
Our New York Get Away Was Full Of Excitement and Challenges But We Had The Time Of Our Lives
I had never been to NY before and when my buddies and I decided to finally make plans to go I was so excited. Little did I realize or consider the trip clearly enough to grasp it would come with its challenges. Well, I knew there are challenges in any giant city but attempting to sleep was one I didn't think about beforehand. Happily my pal had a CD hypnosis for sleep which actually helped. And when I did get enough rest the days and nights were just amazing.
It is one thing to see pictures, videos and even TV shows about New York but its quite another thing once you get there and experience it all in person. When they are saying it is the city that never sleeps, they don't seem to be kidding. Regardless of what time of day or night there was always something going on, something to be found and something cool and exciting to do. Whether it was food and new things to eat, music and entertainment on some level or meeting folks from interesting to quite bizarre, there was always some thing to do and see.
What I liked the most was the variety. Regardless of when I have traveled formerly and of all of the places Ive been, NY City offers such a wide selection of almost all things. But initially I am going to admit it seemed a bit overpowering and even frightening sometimes. After a day or 2 I settled in and got more into the vibe of the city and the people there. But what a hectic pace it is if you aren't aware enough to go at your own rate and allow yourself to get wrapped up in the local pace that is set. I think the thing that you can be in a big, huge city and what it has to offer but then be in Central Park as if you have left the city and journeyed to another place.
When we went to the park we saw families, couples walking together as though there was not any one else around, some seedy characters for sure and folks from regular looking folk to giant business and affluent types. What a mixture it was and I'm only able to imagine its like this nowhere else. Where else are you able to see such an amazing variety and mixture of folk all in the same place passing each other every day? Even as I sit and imagine it I cant think of another place so diverse.
And in many places there are certain areas that stand out or are renowned for their art and entertainment or for their culture and history or something that brands them. But in New York city they have it all. I didn't realize how much we were doing some days till we stopped to rest or made it back to the hotel and realized my adrenaline was taking over but my body and mind were actually debilitated due to all we did everyday. But we'd eat, rest and then stand by for the superb and amazing night life the city has to give. And it is going till the sun comes up. I know I will go back and already look forward to it.
