1964 New York Yankees Box Scores

The 1964.5 Ford Mustang Started a Trend That still has Yet to Finish

More than nine million Ford Mustangs have been sold since the 1964.5 Ford Mustang launched the greatest new-car success in history. Designed, in part, after the Ford Falcon which did not come close to the same popularity, the Mustang was a success from the moment it was offered to the public in March of 1964.

An unbelievable 22,000 Mustangs were purchased the first day the 1964.5 went on sale. Getting on the Mustang bandwagon with huge sales, Ford dealerships help celebrate Ford’s one millionth Mustang sale, which came only 18 months after the new car was launched.

Those availing themselves of those special sales found themselves the owners of Mustangs with such special features as 200 cubic inch 6-cylinder engines, sports steering wheels, chrome air cleaners, and much more.

For a short period after the inaugural 1964.5 was released, Ford gave buyers the standard 260 cubic inch, 6-cylinder engine, and an option to buy one of two V-8 versions, one of them 260 cubic inch in size and the other with 289 cubic inches. By August, the need for more power became obvious, and Ford dropped the 260 cubic inch engine and went exclusively to three versions of the 289 cubic inch, 4.7 liter engine.

[When Ford launched its new 1964.5 model, in March of 1964, then officially launched the new car at the New York World’s Fair in April of that year, the only body styles it offered were the coupe and the convertible|The Mustang coupe and Mustang convertible were the only models of that popular automobile when it first was launched in March 1964 and officially launched one month later at the New York World’s Fair|Only two versions of the 1964.5 Mustang, the coupe and the convertible, were available the first few months the car was on the market}. Sales of the new fastback soon became popular as well, it being added to the coupe and convertible models of the 1964.5 at the same time Ford turned exclusively to manufacturing 289 engines .

Bidding to own a classic 1964.5 Ford Mustang can be fierce, but not if you set your sights on a Precision Die-Cast Replica that looks like the real deal. It’s not just the idyllic Die-Cast Replica of this car that started the Mustang frenzy years ago that will intrigue you, but the detail of the 289 cubic inch Hi-Pro engine and authentic Ford and Mustang logos that go on the car.
